New truce in Persian Gulf – how long this time?

Oil prices dip following another lull in the fighting in the Persian Gulf amid rumours of new plans to revive the stalled Iranian-American peace agreement. The Saudis claim credit for persuading the Americans to put another wave of American attacks on hold to create space for more third-party mediation.

Defend our Juries!

The Met police arrested over 100 anti-genocide supporters outside Westminster Magistrates Court at the Defend Our Juries Graduation Day that began at midday on 30th July. Sir Jonathon Porritt, advisor to King Charles for 30 years before he was crowned, was one of them. As police escorted him away, he said: “I am a support er of Palestine Action. Trying to save lives is not terrorism.

Remember Hiroshima and Nagasaki

This week millions in Japan and throughout the world will pause to remember those who died in the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki during the last days of the Second World War. On 6th August 1945 Hiroshima was destroyed by an American atom bomb. Nagasaki was hit three days later. Hundreds of thousands of people, mostly civilians, were killed instantly in the atomic blasts. Many more would later perish from flash burns and radiation sickness.
